Can We Skip to the Good Part?

I have a good friend who, when life is a bit rocky, often says, “Is this the good part? Tell me when we get to the good part, because I don’t want to miss it.”
"Can we just skip to the good part?" Oh, I feel and hear this in session all the time. Maybe not those exact words, but the feeling underneath them. And that’s the exhaustion, grief, and quiet desperation. Most of us have been holding it together for so long that we have forgotten what it feels like to just breathe and maybe even to hope that the breathing gets easier.
The message is clear. “I know there is a better version of my life somewhere on the other side of all this pain. Can we just get there, and how hard is it going to be?”
So, here’s what I can say. When we sit together in a session, the first thing we do is learn to slow down. There’s no preset plan, we just sit with what comes into the room with you. We breathe with it. We let it be without trying to fix it or figure it out or rush past it.
Something does happen within you, in that slowing down. You start to feel your own ground again. You slowly give yourself permission to stop running long enough to notice that you are still here, and that here is enough.
And that’s a good part. Already. Right there.
The moment you stop and sit gently with what is happening inside of you, the healing is already moving. You may not understand it yet, but there is power and grace and love in the act of being with it all.
And when you are ready, things begin to surface.
We may pull a thread and follow it and see where it goes. Something comes to light that we didn’t expect. That’s a good part.
We may sit with a revelation that changes the shape of a story that’s been running within you for many years, and then you feel the weight of it shift even slightly. That’s a good part.
We may release something you have been carrying so long you forgot it wasn’t yours to carry. And the lightness that follows may feel strange and unfamiliar and just maybe a little bit like hope. That’s a good part.
We may also rest, and rest is not just an intermission between the hard scenes. Rest is the healing itself settling into your body. That is a good part, too.
No matter where you are in the journey, I know that it can feel like healing is the thing standing between you and the good part. And that can seem like a lot.
What if sitting with, pulling threads, revelations, releasing, resting, repairing, and reclaiming -- all of that is your life happening. It is not a detour from your life.
What if healing is not the price of admission but rather a threshold to the most alive, honest, courageous version of your life.
It is worth it. All of it. This is the good part, don’t miss it.
